A Commitment To Tie Three Million Tons of Carbon Dioxide By 2025
World Summit of Students for Climate (WSSC) Launched in India
After a very successful "100 Million Trees by 2017" campaign between 2008-2017, a new campaign to tie three million tons of CO2 by 2025 was launched.
The international launch of WSSC took place today at the Embassy of Finland in Delhi, India. The Ambassador of Finland, Nina Vaskunlahti, 1st WSSC Ambassador Paavani, CEO of ENO Mika Vanhanen, and President of Act Now and ENO India coordinator Rajiv K Shrivastava were present.
Students and teachers from about 100 countries joined hands in Finland at the end of May. The initiative comes from the ENO SchoolNet, In the summit, students shared their experiences on climate change and ways to act. The importance of forests was in focus. A concrete outcome emerged in the form of a commitment of schools to plant trees and tie three million tons of carbon dioxide by 2025. The summit was organized in co-operation with the city of Helsinki, Minister of Environment, the Ministry of Education and Culture, Ministry of Agriculture and Forest and Ministry for Foreign Affairs. World Summit of Students for Climate is endorsed by the president of the Republic of Finland, Mr. Sauli Niinistö.
